Network monitoring guides for homes and small businesses

These guides explain how to turn network measurements into useful answers. They focus on small environments where the important question is usually not whether a device is technically reachable, but why the connection sometimes feels slow, unstable, or unavailable from one particular place.

Start here

What should you monitor on a home or small network?

Build a useful monitoring plan across the local gateway, Internet path, DNS, applications, Wi-Fi, and endpoint health. This guide also explains where to put measurement Agents and why a single central check leaves blind spots.

How to diagnose intermittent network problems

Use latency, packet loss, jitter, service-layer checks, and endpoint comparisons to narrow a fault toward Wi-Fi, the gateway, the uplink, DNS, a remote service, or the device itself. The workflow is designed for problems that disappear before you can inspect them.

How these guides are different from product reference

The guides begin with the problem and the evidence needed to answer it. Product reference begins with a NetTact component or setting. Once you know what you want to measure, use these pages for the exact setup:

The aim is not to collect every available metric. It is to keep a small set of measurements that can distinguish likely causes when a real problem occurs.

The single source of truth for configuration is each binary’s --help output
